Analyse de l'évolution de la consommation de plats préparés en Belgique Winandy, Stéphane ; ; Lebailly, Philippe et al in Biotechnologie, Agronomie, Société et Environnement = Biotechnology, Agronomy, Society and Environment [=BASE] (2013), 17(4), 593-603 This study aims to analyze the evolution of the consumption of ready-made food in Belgium and to discern any trends. [more ▼] This study aims to analyze the evolution of the consumption of ready-made food in Belgium and to discern any trends. The data used are expenditure made on convenience food from 1999 and 2009 (in euros) and socio-demographic characteristics, obtained from the Household Budget Survey undertaken annually by the Federal Public Service Economy (DGSIE). Statistical analyses (simple, multiple and binary logistic regressions) enable the study of consumption trends in terms of exependiture and percentage of consumers as well as the determination of consumer profiles. Convenience food is part of the eating habits of Belgian households, with more than nine out of ten households being consumers. Convenience food prepared from meat is the most frequently purchased. For all ready-made food, the variable of household size explains the most variability in consumption, followed by the variables of income and age. The link between this biplot and the plots of the variables and of the individuals usually given in principal component analysis is discussed and applied to an example. [more ▼] Analysis of meat expenditure by Belgian households in 2008. Meat expenditure by Belgian households during 2008 is analyzed. Expenditure is extracted from the Belgian Household Budget Survey at the FPS Economy, S.M.E.s, Self-employed and Energy. The database also provides sociodemographic information about the households participating in the survey. To explain the observed variability of the meat expenditure based on the explanatory factors available, an analysis of the covariance is performed. The three quantitative factors have a bigger effect on the meat expenditure than the three other qualitative factors. The proportion of meat expenditure variability explained by the explanatory factors of the selected model is 31,41%. [more ▼] Local food systems are one solution to promote local products in different ways and particularly by bringing together producers and consumers. This paper follows different purposes. The term “local food systems” will be defined as systems mobilizing not more than one intermediate person in a local area, where the exchanges must be monetized and where a relationship between the producer and the consumer is established. Then, a classification of the various initiatives of local food systems will be proposed. Thereafter the results of two studies conducted in the Walloon Region will be presented. The first study was conducted in Wallonia and Brussels in 2010 by the CRIOC to assess consumers’ perceptions and expectations of local products marketing using local food systems. The second one was conducted in 2010 to establish an inventory of local food systems in the Province of Namur. It had four main objectives: to describe categories of local food systems used, to give an overview of products supply, to understand main difficulties encountered by producers and to give benchmarks for the installation. The paper concludes that local food systems provide a wide diversity of selling networks which can be used. However, it is not easy for producers to meet consumers’ needs for local agricultural produce. The paper also puts emphasis on the necessity of including many fields of action to develop local food systems. [more ▼] A method is proposed to determine the accuracy of a GPS receiver. This accuracy consists of the trueness of the receiver (absence of systematic error) and its precision (effect of unavoidable accidental errors). This method consists in using the GPS receiver to perform, at different dates, the measurement of coordinates of some stations of known coordinates. The discrepancies between the coordinated measured and the “known” coordinates of these stations are submitted to an two-way analysis of variance. This one permits to verify if accidental errors are or not independent of the dates and stations of measurement. Th results of this analysis of variance allow the value the precision of the receiver therefore. [more ▼] The residual error is one of the most used criteria for the choice of regression model. The large majority of the criteria for model selection are also functions of the usual variance estimate for a regression model, as Akaike criterion information [Akaike, 1973] and Mallows’ criterion [Mallows, 1964]. The effectiveness of these criteria to approach the theoretical model is related to the good estimate of the theoretical residual error of the model. This efficiency is often limited by the sample size used for the estimates. The choice of a invalid model can have bad consequences on the objective of the research in particular on the forecasts, interpretations and the conclusions. We studied by Monte Carlo simulation the effects of the data structure on the quality of the residual error obtained in multiple linear regression. The results showed that the estimator is a good estimator when the model is established without selection of variables, but becomes biased when the model results from a selection of variables. Colinearity between the explanatory variables and the index which measure the importance of the variables in the true model do not have an influence on the quality of the estimator.
