In France, just like in much of European countries, the park of old buildings available, potentially improvable and prone to restoration is rather important. The energy stakes of planet and the considerable share of the consumption of energy required by the requirements of comfort of the habitat must question the projects promoter and the owners when they approach the restoration of existing buildings. The objective of this project is to develop methods and tools of decision-making aid making it possible a person receiving benefits in energy restoration to determine the best possible scenarios of restoration, i.e. those answering as well as possible waitings of the various actors concerned. This project relates to the individual residential buildings. By energy restoration of a building, one understands the whole of the actions carried out on the frame (insulation, air tightness, etc) and the systems energy (heating, medical warm water, ventilation, etc), aiming at improving his energy performance. The energy assessment of a building takes again all the contributions and the losses of heat to which it is subjected. [less ▲]

This paper presents an on-line system for capturing and interpreting architectural sketches. The prototype is based on a multi-agent system, which enables real-time management of recognition scenarios. We describe the different types of agents, their characteristics, the basic mechanisms involved in interpreting freehand architectural drawings and the collaboration modes between agents. Architects use freehand sketches in the initial stages of their design work because they prove to be the best adapted media for handling and expressing their preliminary ideas. Therefore, to help designers in their inventive work, a means for inputting and interpreting their sketches was needed.We propose a multi-agent approach to attain that goal. In this paper, we describe the operations of a multi-agent system for the on-line recognition of sketches. This system is currently integrated into the EsQUIsE prototype, a demo program for inputting, analysing and interpreting architectural design sketches. [less ▲]

The PC software AMCE proposes building actors a Multiple Criteria Decision Aid procedure (MCDA) to optimise the building envelope about cost and energy performances, during the sketch design. Two main modules are linked, where the user interactively goes: - a first one manages parameters describing the project requirements; - a graphic pen-based module allows to draw the sketch; it calculates geometric parameter values and put them back in the first module. Permanently informed on foreseeable performances, the user can any time search for optimal scenario giving best satisfaction to one actor or most preferred compromise to the set of actors. [less ▲]
