A series of about forty long-slit spectra of Halley's comet has been secured in the optical wavelength region, using different instruments, at resolution ranging from 0.05 to 1.6 nm. The interval of heliocentric distance r covered by these observations is 1.7 to 0.9 a.u. before perihelion, while r = 0.95 a.u. after perihelion. The main characteristics of the pre-perihelion spectra are described. In particular, some emissions due to the OH[SUP]+[/SUP] (0,1) and CH[SUP]+[/SUP](1,0) bands have been detected for the first time. [less ▲]

The present reexamination of emission line variations in HD 192163 on the basis of 23 spectra takes into account stratification effects in the atmosphere of the WR stars, as well as the necessity for a high N/R ratio. Because of the peculiar shape of the profiles, the wavelength shifts are measured by comparing the position of every observation to a nearly noise-free profile that is taken as reference. The most probable period supported by the present data is either 0.45 or 0.31 days; these two periods are one-day aliases of each other. [less ▲]

Spectrograms of HD 108 covering a wide spectral range (3200 Å-8000 Å) have been obtained in 1971 and 1972 at the Haute Provence Observatory. They are described in detail in the present paper and they are compared to previously published observations. New emission lines have been detected (3806 Å, 4415 Å, 4417 Å, 6340 Å) as well as new rapid intensity variations (He I: 4026.2 Å, 4387.9 Å; N III: 3s4P0-3p4D and 42F0-52G; Si IV: 4s2S-4p2P0). The measured radial velocities are compatible with an expanding atmosphere which exhibit a marked acceleration toward the outer layers. [less ▲]
