[more ▼] GC is commonly used for the analysis of cannabis samples, e.g. in forensic chemistry. However, as this method is based on heating of the sample, acidic forms of cannabinoids are decarboxylated into their neutral counterparts. Converely, HPLC permits the determination of the original composition of plant cannabinoids by direct analysis. Several HPLC methods have been described in the literature, but most of them failed to separate efficiently all the cannabinoids or were not validated according to general guidelines. By use of an innovative methodology for modelling chromatographic responses, a simple and accurate HPLC/DAD method was develop [less ▲] Detailed reference viewed: 127 (63 ULg) Cocaïne and metabolites in waste and surface water across Belgium.; ; Theunis, Laetitia et alin Environmental Pollution (2009), 157 Detailed reference viewed: 84 (45 ULg) Can cocaine use be evaluated through analysis of wastewater? Between January 2003 and January 2005, 50 samples were analysed in the Laboratory of Clinical Toxicology and Forensic Toxicology of the University of Liege. Mean heroin concentration was 14,7%. Noscapine and papaverine, other opium alcaloids, were simultaneously present with heroin. As diluents, we only identified caffein and acetaminophen. [more ▼] This paper presents a case of fatal overdosage due to an accidental massive administration (750 mg instead of 170 mg) of cisplatin, an anticancer agent, to a 63-year-old patient suffering from lymphoma. Platinum was measured in various postmortem samples by means of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Heart and peripheral blood concentrations of platinum were 1515 and 1253 micro g/L, respectively. Concentrations in urine and bile were 1038 and 501 micro g/L, respectively. Renal dialysis was started immediately after the end of cisplatin perfusion, when the mistake was noticed, but the patient deceased at day 16, presenting renal and hepatic insufficiency, ototoxicity, and pancytopenia. [more ▼] A method for the determination of seven polychlorinated biphenyl residues in plasma by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was developed. The analytes were isolated from human plasma by liquid-liquid extraction, followed by solid-phase extraction, and separation on an HP5 Trace column. Ionization mode was electronic impact, and selected ion storage was used for isolation and quantitation of the compounds. The method was evaluated for its analytical performances and therefore applied to monitor the prevalence of these seven polychlorinated biphenyl residues in a female population. Eighty samples were analyzed, and 82.5% presented detectable amounts of at least one residue. For the population study, results were reported on a lipid-adjusted basis. Because the proposed method is satisfying and seems to be suitable for the quantitation of PCB congeners in a general population, epidemiological studies to evaluate the widespread contamination with these environmental compounds can be proposed.
